Hardening, nitriding, case hardening and laser hardening of steels are generally handled by dedicated suppliers, with quality being ensured by their own certification of the processes.

Chrome or nickel plating, as well as other specialty coatings, are performed by third party sources under the direct supervision of Molco’s engineering group. While some processes, like chrome plating, are regarded as protective coatings, others, like PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), are typically considered for processing reasons. A variety of proprietary coatings, are available in Portugal from different sources.

Although less “invasive” than texture, most “platings” or coatings should be discussed and agreed upon during the early stages of tool development, so that proper allowances can be considered.
